The tragic death this week, apparently by suicide, of the young Galway hurler, Niall Donoghue, shows the crying need to fight the scourge of self-destruction in modern Ireland. Below, is a link to a long interview I did with suicide prevention counsellor, Dr Jim O’Donoghue, for the Irish Independent earlier this month. Dr O’Donoghue strongly believes that the present system of suicide prevention and the treatment for dealing with suicidal feelings is not at all sufficient, He believes we need a far more holistic, realistic and imaginative approach.
